Rishabh Pant continues to impress fans and analysts alike, showcasing his batting prowess even while nursing an injury. On Thursday, during the second day of the Test match against England in Manchester, he equaled the iconic Virender Sehwag's record for the highest number of sixes hit by an Indian in Test cricket, both now standing at 90 sixes.
Pant, celebrated for his aggressive batting style, shares this record with Sehwag, while Indian captain Rohit Sharma is close behind with 88 sixes. MS Dhoni follows with 78, and Ravindra Jadeja rounds out the top five with 74 sixes.
Leading Run-Scorer in the World Test Championship
In addition to his sixes, Pant has also surpassed Rohit Sharma to become India's top run-scorer in the World Test Championship (WTC) era. He has accumulated 2731 runs in just 38 Test matches, which includes six centuries and sixteen fifties, while Rohit has 2719 runs.
What makes this achievement remarkable is that Pant returned to bat despite a painful toe injury sustained on Day 1, demonstrating his resilience and commitment.
Pant's Impressive Knock
In the fourth Test, Pant scored 54 runs off 75 balls, featuring three boundaries and two sixes. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that he will not be keeping wickets for the remainder of the Manchester Test due to his injury but will be available to bat if necessary.
On Day 1, Pant faced a setback when he was struck on the right foot by a yorker from England's Chris Woakes, causing him significant pain and raising doubts about his ability to continue in the match.
